phpChat is chat server written completely in PHP. It is intended both for corporate

While the need for processing the IRC protocol takes a considerable amount of additional overhead in programming, it allows you to:
link multiple chat boxes together
create decentral, dynamic chat networks

Of course, stand-alone chats are supported as well.
On top of that, no client-side interaction is needed as all interfacing with the network is done server-side. This enables all users behind a firewall to still use IRC services, as opposed to the common Java clients (which also require you to have a Java-enabled browser).
The interface of phpChat is based completely on templates, which means that you can change its look entirely without touching a single line of code.
